Crystals are all the rave right now. Not only are they beautiful, but they are also effective to work with the energy of the crystal for physical healing and inner transformation.
Some of my favorite uses for crystals are for manifestation such as money magick and inner soul work such as shadow work.
What exactly is shadow work?
The shadow is a psychological term for everything we can’t see in ourselves. Shadow work is consciously bringing forward the unconscious aspects of the self that often remain hidden or ignored for a different reasons.
Many times, these hidden aspects are memories, traits or things about us that are suppressed within the unconsciousness, suppressed until we face them.
This could be fear, shame, anger or anxiety. We may have been told to hide away because they aren’t desirable, acceptable or understood.
We can ignore these parts of our shadow, but they don’t simply disappear; rather, they seep out and create problems in our life the more we try to ignore or suppress them.
Shadow work helps us analyzing these aspects of our hidden self to better understand and heal these aspects-something I realized I had to do to heal from my trauma.
6 Crystals for Shadow Work
Now that you have a grasp on what shadow work, here are 6 crystals you can use to help you through your journey.
Onyx
The onyx is an excellent crystal for working on past life issues.
If you find that your issues in your shadow work self have no connection to your life, you may possibly have unresolved issues from a past life.
This crystal can assist with eliminating fear, anxiety and phobias that may originate from a past life. Even bad habits or patterns may come from a past life memory.
An awesome book about past life workings is, Discovering Your Past Lives by Gloria Chadwick.
Jet
This crystal is perfect for helping if you have feelings that have been suppressed or locked away. The jet crystal will help to release those barriers.
Warning: working with jet in shadow work could unleash a major flooding of emotion- especially if these emotions have been suppressed for a long period of time.
What this crystal can do is assist with learning to deal with these repressed feelings for what they are. You need to validate your feelings and process through them in a healthy way.
Black Tourmaline
The black tourmaline can assist you with overcoming feelings of worthlessness, self-hatred, negative thought patterns and negativity.
These conditions are often imprinted with memories and energy from the past.
Luckily, this crystal is very affordable, so it fits every budget.
Black tourmaline is often associated with the root chakra, which controls our security and stability.
Obsidian
Obsidian is technically a form of volcanic glass. There are different forms of obsidian, and each obsidian stone has a slight variation on the properties of what it does.
Black Obsidian has the power to reveal that which is hidden. It is often referred to as the “stone of truth”. Use this baby with caution and respect! It reflects our true selves, both positive and negative, which can make it a very intense stone to work with.
This crystal is perfect for ancestral healing and past lives. So, if you get the feeling that parts of your shadow self are connected to your past lives, you may want to use this crystal for your shadow work.
It is also known for revealing inner truth, it will reveal to you who you are underneath everything.
This stone is associated with Pluto, the energy that strips everything away down to the underworld.

Black Moonstone
My absolute favorite crystal is the black moonstone! I’m not sure why, but I am drawn to moonstones. Maybe it is because I feel so connected to the moon?
Anyway, this crystal is said to be connected to the dark moon, dark goddess and Black Madonna, and is connected to lunar and feminine energies. It is a great crystal to use to face the shadow aspect of the Divine Feminine.
The black moonstone can help you to heal and uncover the shadow side of your feminine self.
So, you can use this stone for unresolved shadow issues involving fertility, menstruation and femininity. Try meditating or journaling while working with black moonstone. I’ve been thinking of adding a black moonstone candle to my fertility candle line.
What do you think?
Labradorite
The last shadow work crystal suggestion I have is the Labradorite. This is a mystical crystal and has a softer energy than obsidian, onyx or jet.
So, it’s a perfect crystal to bring past memories to light, while banishing fear and anxiety that may be triggered from these past memories.
Use the Labradorite for shadow work for self-reflection; better understand your reasons and motives behind what you say, do or how you feel.
Basically, this stone helps you to shed light on certain behaviors, and assist you in becoming more aware of your actions and behaviors.
